Dichloromethane

Dichloromethane is an organic compound with the molecular formula CH2Cl2. It is a colorless, transparent liquid with an ether-like pungent odor. It is slightly soluble in water but soluble in ethanol and ether. Under normal conditions of use, it is a non-flammable, low-boiling-point solvent. Its vapor forms a weakly combustible gas mixture only when present in high concentrations in high-temperature air [8]. It is often used as a substitute for flammable solvents such as petroleum ether and ether.

1. Used for grain fumigation and as a refrigerant in low-pressure refrigeration and air conditioning systems.

2. Used as a solvent, extractant, and mutagen.

3. Used in the electronics industry, commonly as a cleaning and degreasing agent.

4. Used as a dental local anesthetic, refrigerant, fire extinguishing agent, and for degreasing and stripping coatings from metal surfaces.

5. Used as an intermediate in organic synthesis.
