Potassium carbonate is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula K2CO3, a molecular weight of 138.206, appearing as a white crystalline powder, density 2.428 g/cm³, melting point 891°C. It is highly soluble in water, with its aqueous solution being alkaline, and insoluble in ethanol. It has strong hygroscopic properties, capable of absorbing carbon dioxide and moisture from the air, converting into potassium bicarbonate. It should be packaged in a sealed manner.
