Brucea javanica (scientific name: Brucea javanica (Linn.) Merr.) is a plant in the genus Brucea of the Simaroubaceae family. It is a shrub or small tree; young branches, leaf stalks, and inflorescences are all covered with yellow pubescence. The leaves are 20-40 cm long, with 3-15 leaflets; the leaflets are ovate or ovate-lanceolate. The flowers form panicles, with male inflorescences measuring 15-25(-40) cm in length. The drupes, 1-4 in number, are separate, elongated ovoid, with yellowish-white, ovate kernels covered by a thin membrane, rich in oil, and extremely bitter in taste. The flowering period is in summer, and the fruiting period is from August to October.
