Anhydrous ethanol is a flammable, volatile, colorless, and transparent liquid at room temperature and pressure. It has low toxicity, and the pure liquid is not directly drinkable; it possesses a distinctive aroma with a slight irritancy, a mildly sweet taste accompanied by a pungent and spicy flavor. It is flammable and miscible with water in any proportion. It can also mix with chloroform, methanol, acetone, and most other organic solvents, with a relative density (d15.56) of 0.816.

II. Scope of Application

● Ethanol can be used to produce acetic acid, beverages, flavors, dyes, fuels, etc.

● In medicine, a volume fraction of 70%–75% ethanol is commonly used as a disinfectant, among other applications. It has extensive uses in national defense chemicals, medical and health sectors, food industry, and industrial and agricultural production.
