Methyl chloride

Methyl chloride (methyl chloride, chloromethane, CH3Cl), also known as chloromethane, is a colorless, easily liquefiable gas that is stored in steel cylinders under pressure. It belongs to the category of organic halides. It is slightly soluble in water but readily soluble in chloroform, ether, ethanol, and acetone. It is highly flammable, explosive, and poses significant hazards (refer to HG20660 "Classification of Toxicity Hazards and Explosion Risks of Chemical Media in Pressure Vessels"). It is non-corrosive. At high temperatures (above 400°C) and under strong light, it decomposes into methanol and hydrochloric acid. When heated or exposed to flame, it produces phosgene.
