n-Butanol
Other Products
Main Uses
Solvent:
Due to its good solubility for resins, oils, dyes, etc., it is widely used in coatings (nitrocellulose lacquer, alkyd paint), adhesives, and printing inks to adjust system viscosity and promote film formation.
As an extractant, it is used in the pharmaceutical and fragrance industries to extract natural ingredients (such as essential oils, alkaloids).
Chemical Raw Material:
Production of plasticizers: Reacts with phthalic anhydride to produce dibutyl phthalate (DBP), which is used in polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastics to enhance flexibility.
Production of esters: Reacts with acetic acid to produce butyl acetate (a solvent used in coatings and fragrances); reacts with acrylic acid to produce butyl acrylate (a synthetic resin monomer).
Production of chemicals such as butyl ether and butylamine, used in organic synthesis or surfactants.
Other Fields:
In the pharmaceutical industry as a solvent or reaction medium for pharmaceutical intermediates;
In cosmetics as a humectant or solvent (such as nail polish, perfume);
Small amounts used as fuel additives (improving diesel fluidity) or defoamers.
