Additional Information
1. Solvent Field
Coatings and Inks:
As a high-boiling solvent to dissolve resins (such as epoxy resins, acrylic resins), regulate the drying speed of the paint film, and improve leveling;
Used in printing inks to reduce volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions (more environmentally friendly compared to methanol and toluene).
Pharmaceuticals and Pesticides:
As a drug crystallization solvent (such as for antibiotics, hormones) or a co-solvent for preparing injections;
As a solvent and stabilizer in pesticide emulsifiable concentrates to enhance the dispersibility of active ingredients.
Cosmetics:
Added to skincare products as a coupling agent to help oil-soluble ingredients mix with the water phase, while providing a cooling sensation (volatilization absorbs heat).
2. Chemical Raw Materials
Synthesis Intermediates:
Preparation of tert-butyl compounds (such as tert-butyl phenol, tert-butyl amine), used in antioxidants (such as BHT), resins, and pharmaceuticals (such as ibuprofen intermediates);
Production of tert-butyl methacrylate (polymer monomer, used in coatings and adhesives).
Organic Synthesis:
As an alkylation reagent, introducing tert-butyl groups via reagents such as tert-butyl lithium;
Preparation of potassium tert-butoxide (strong base, used in dehydrohalogenation reactions in organic synthesis).
3. Energy and Fuel
Gasoline Additives:
As a high-octane component (Research Octane Number about 102), replacing tetraethyl lead to improve gasoline anti-knock properties and reduce exhaust pollution;
Mixed with methanol and ethanol to produce clean fuels, improving low-temperature start performance.
Biodiesel:
As a co-solvent in transesterification reactions to improve the mutual solubility of oils and methanol and accelerate the reaction rate.
4. Other Applications
Used as a recrystallization solvent in laboratories (high melting point, facilitating low-temperature crystallization);
Refrigerant (low boiling point, volatilization absorbs heat, used for local refrigeration);
Used as a raw material for synthetic fragrances in the fragrance industry (such as synthesizing citrus essences).
