α-Methylstyrene
Other Products
Main Uses
Polymer Modifier: This is its primary application. It is copolymerized with styrene, acrylonitrile, etc., to produce heat-resistant plastics (such as modified polystyrene, ABS resin), improving the heat resistance, rigidity, and dimensional stability of the products. It is widely used in electronic and electrical housings, automotive parts, etc.
Coatings and Adhesives: Used as a monomer for preparing heat-resistant coatings, adhesives, or sealants; the high Tg of its polymer can enhance the temperature resistance and hardness of the coatings.
Inhibitor: Utilizing its easy-polymerization characteristic, it is added in small amounts to other olefin monomers (such as styrene) as an inhibitor during storage or transportation to prevent premature spontaneous polymerization of the monomers.
Organic Synthesis Intermediate: Used for preparing fine chemicals such as fragrances, pharmaceuticals, and dyes. For example, it can be converted to cumene via hydrogenation or used to synthesize aromatic ketone compounds via oxidation reactions.
