1-Dodecanethiol
Other Products
Main Uses
Polymer Material Synthesis:
As a free-radical polymerization chain transfer agent, it is widely used in the production of synthetic rubbers such as styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR), nitrile rubber (NBR), and neoprene. It controls molecular weight by regulating polymer chain length, thereby improving the processing properties and mechanical properties (such as elasticity and wear resistance) of the rubber.
In the production of plastics (such as polyethylene and polypropylene) and synthetic resins, it is used to control molecular weight distribution, enhancing product stability and transparency.
Metal Surface Treatment:
Due to the strong binding affinity of thiol groups to metals, it can serve as a modifier for metal surfaces (such as gold, silver, and copper), forming a monolayer protective film to prevent metal corrosion or modify surface hydrophilicity/hydrophobicity. It is applied in fields such as electronic components and plating processes.
Pharmaceutical and Agrochemical Intermediates:
Used as an intermediate in the synthesis of antibacterial and antiviral drugs, as well as a raw material for certain pesticides (such as insecticides and herbicides).
Other Applications:
As a lubricant additive, it improves the oxidation resistance and anti-wear performance of oils.
Used in the preparation of surfactants (such as thiol-based anionic surfactants), applied in products like detergents and emulsifiers.
Acts as a thiol donor in organic synthesis, participating in the preparation of compounds such as sulfides and disulfides.
