Application Fields

Relying on "strong reducing properties + controllable reactivity", methylhydroquinone is widely used in the fields of polymerization inhibition, antioxidants, and fine chemical intermediates:

Inhibitors and Antioxidants:

Polymer Synthesis Inhibition: Used for the storage and transportation of monomers such as acrylates, methacrylates, and styrene to inhibit free radical polymerization (effective inhibition can be achieved with an addition amount of 0.01-0.1%). The inhibition effect is superior to hydroquinone (due to methyl steric hindrance reducing self-polymerization side reactions).

Rubber/Plastics Antioxidant: Used as an auxiliary antioxidant for rubber and plastics, compounded with primary antioxidants (such as hindered phenols) to improve the aging resistance of materials (e.g., extending the outdoor service life of rubber products by 20-30%) and prevent thermal oxidative degradation.

Pharmaceutical and Pesticide Intermediates:

Pharmaceutical Synthesis: Used in the preparation of anti-tuberculosis drugs and antioxidant drugs (such as Coenzyme Q series derivatives). The reactivity of the phenolic hydroxyl and methyl groups allows for the precise construction of drug molecular structures.

Pesticide Synthesis: Used in the synthesis of fungicides (such as thiophanate-methyl intermediates) and herbicides; its derivatives possess highly efficient inhibitory effects against fungal diseases.

Dye and Pigment Intermediates:

Used in the synthesis of anthraquinone dyes and azo dyes. Through esterification or etherification reactions of the phenolic hydroxyl group, the color tone and solubility of the dyes can be adjusted, making them suitable for dyeing fibers such as cotton and linen.

Used in the preparation of high-grade pigments (such as yellow organic pigments). The products feature bright colors, and light fastness (sunlight fastness ≥ grade 6) superior to traditional pigments.

Other Fields:

Cosmetic Additives: Added as an antioxidant to skincare products to inhibit the oxidation and deterioration of oils and fats, extending the shelf life of the products (addition amount ≤ 0.3%, complying with cosmetic safety standards).

Electronic Chemicals: High-purity methylhydroquinone (99.9% and above) is used as a stabilizer for semiconductor photoresists, improving the storage stability and exposure precision of the photoresist.
