This product is a colorless, transparent, or white translucent hexagonal crystal or white granular powder, odorless, salty with a bitter taste, and slightly hygroscopic. It is easy to deliquesce in humid air. It decomposes to release free iodine and turns yellow upon exposure to light and air, and more easily turns yellow in acidic aqueous solutions; it is extremely soluble in water with significant heat absorption during dissolution; soluble in ethanol, acetone, methanol, glycerol, and liquid ammonia.
Used in photographic emulsions, soaps, lithography, organic synthesis, pharmaceuticals, food additives, etc.
