Isobutanol

　　Main Uses

　　Solvent:

　　Used in coatings (alkyd paints, nitrocellulose lacquers), printing inks, and adhesives. Due to its volatility being slightly faster than n-butanol, it can adjust the drying speed of the system.

　　As an extraction agent, used in the pharmaceutical and fragrance industries to extract natural ingredients (such as plant essential oils, alkaloids).

　　Chemical Raw Material:

　　Production of esters: Reacts with acetic acid to produce isobutyl acetate (a low-toxicity solvent used in coatings, fragrances, and cosmetics); reacts with methacrylic acid to produce isobutyl methacrylate (a synthetic resin monomer used in coatings and plastics).

　　Production of plasticizers: Reacts with phthalic anhydride to produce diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP), which has properties similar to DBP and is used in PVC plastics.

　　Synthesis of isobutylamine, isobutyl ether, etc., used in fields such as surfactants and rubber accelerators.

　　Other Fields:

　　In the pharmaceutical industry, as a solvent for drug intermediates (such as in the synthesis of antibiotics and vitamins);

　　Fuel additives: Due to its branched-chain structure, it can improve gasoline octane rating or diesel fluidity, and partially substitute methanol as a biofuel;

　　In the fragrance industry, its esters (such as isobutyl butyrate) are used to blend fruit flavors (banana, pineapple).
