Consumer Electronics: Widely used in the casings and internal components of smartphones and laptops; the EU RoHS 2025 update lists it as a restricted substance, requiring a content of ≤0.1% in electronic equipment.

Construction and Transportation

Insulation Materials: Used in polyurethane foam and extruded polystyrene (XPS) boards to enhance fire ratings. In 2025, consumption in the construction sector is estimated to account for approximately 30% of the global total.

Automotive Interiors: Used as a flame retardant additive in components such as seats and dashboards; the lightweight trend in new energy vehicles is driving demand growth, but the EU REACH regulation requires the supply chain to provide complete toxicological data.

Other Fields

Textiles: Used for flame retardant treatment of curtains and carpets, but countries such as Denmark have banned the use of TBBPA-containing water repellents in clothing.

Medical Devices: Still used in some catheters and packaging materials, but the new EU Cosmetics Regulation (effective September 2025) completely bans its use in personal care products.
