1. Synthesis of Polymer Monomers (Most Critical Use)
Precursor to Caprolactam: Cyclohexanone reacts with hydroxylamine to form cyclohexanone oxime, which then undergoes Beckmann rearrangement (acid-catalyzed) to produce caprolactam—the monomer for Nylon 6 (polycaprolactam). Approximately 60% of the global cyclohexanone supply is used in this field;
Raw Material for Adipic Acid: Cyclohexanone is oxidized by nitric acid to produce adipic acid, which is one of the monomers for Nylon 66 (polyhexamethylene adipamide) and is widely used in textile fibers and engineering plastics.

Due to its strong solvency power and moderate evaporation rate (slower than acetone, faster than cyclohexanol), it is widely used in:
