Main Uses

Chemical Intermediate

It is the main raw material for the synthesis of nonanol (via hydration reaction: 1-nonene and water undergo addition under the action of a catalyst to generate nonanol). Nonanol can be further used to prepare nonanoate esters (plasticizers, lubricants), surfactants, etc.

It generates nonenal and nonenoic acid via oxidation reaction, used for the synthesis of intermediates for fragrances and detergents.

Polymer Monomer and Lubricating Oil

Used as a comonomer to copolymerize with other olefins (such as ethylene) to improve the flexibility and processing performance of polymers.

It generates polyalpha-olefins (PAO) via oligomerization (such as trimerization, tetramerization), serving as base oil for synthetic lubricants. It has good low-temperature fluidity and oxidation resistance, and is used for lubricating precision machinery or high-temperature equipment.

Other Applications

Used as a solvent in organic synthesis reactions or in the coatings and ink industries.

Used for the preparation of nonylphenol (although its application is limited due to environmental concerns, it was once an important raw material for surfactants).
