Main Uses

Pharmaceutical Field:

Formerly used as a sedative and anticonvulsant drug to alleviate symptoms such as epilepsy and insomnia by inhibiting central nervous system excitability (clinical use has decreased due to significant side effects).

Used in the preparation of expectorants and sedative compound preparations.

Industrial and Laboratory:

Used as an analytical reagent for the determination of metal ions such as silver and lead in chemical analysis.

In the photography industry, used as an additive for photosensitive materials to regulate the sensitivity of the emulsion.

Used to prepare other bromides (such as organic bromides) or as a raw material for flame retardants.

In petroleum drilling, can be used as an additive for completion fluids to regulate the density and performance of the drilling fluid.

Other Applications:

Used in water treatment as a bactericide or bromine source supplement.

In fireworks manufacturing, used as a component of colorants (bromine can produce specific flame colors).
