Main Uses

Green Organic Solvent:

Substitute for traditional ether-based solvents (such as tetrahydrofuran, diethyl ether): 2-Methyltetrahydrofuran has moderate polarity (dielectric constant approx. 7.2), high solubility for organometallic reagents (such as Grignard reagents, organolithium reagents), and better stability (less likely to form peroxides; traditional tetrahydrofuran easily forms explosive peroxides upon prolonged storage and requires regular disposal).

Substitute for halogenated solvents (such as dichloromethane, chloroform): Used in extraction, column chromatography, and reaction media to reduce toxicity and environmental hazards, meeting the pharmaceutical industry's requirements for low-toxicity solvents (listed on the FDA's "Class 3" solvents list).

Used in polymerization reactions: As a solvent for the synthesis of polymer materials such as polyvinyl chloride and polyurethane, improving the homogeneity of the reaction system.

Pharmaceuticals and Fine Chemicals:

Key solvent in drug synthesis: Used for the synthesis of intermediates for antibiotics, antitumor drugs, hormones, etc.; for example, serving as a medium in Grignard reactions and reduction reactions to improve reaction yield and selectivity.

Extractant: Used in the extraction of natural products (such as plant polyphenols, alkaloids) for the separation and purification of active ingredients, due to its high solubility for target substances and ease of separation from the aqueous phase.

Other Applications:

Fuel additive: Can be used as a co-solvent for biodiesel to improve its low-temperature fluidity and combustion performance.

Organic synthesis raw material: Used to prepare diols and ester compounds via ring-opening reactions, or to participate in cycloaddition reactions to construct complex molecular structures.
