Triisopropanolamine

　　Main Uses

　　Cement and Concrete Additives:

　　As an early strength agent and water reducer: Adding a small amount of triisopropanolamine (usually 0.01%-0.1%) to concrete can promote the hydration reaction of tricalcium silicate (C₃S) in cement, accelerate early strength development (especially in low-temperature environments), and improve the fluidity and plasticity of concrete;

　　Chelating metal ions: Forms chelates with metal ions such as Fe3⁺ and Al3⁺ in cement, reducing the hindrance of harmful impurities to hydration and improving the later strength and durability of concrete.

　　Metalworking and Surface Treatment:

　　As a corrosion inhibitor: In metal cutting fluids and rust inhibitors, it inhibits metal corrosion by forming a protective film on the metal surface;

　　Electroplating auxiliary agent: Used in electroplating solutions to improve the uniformity and gloss of coatings (such as nickel and chromium coatings) and refine grain structure.

　　Detergents and Surfactants:

　　Synthesis of non-ionic surfactants (e.g., generating esters by reacting with fatty acids), used in detergents and emulsifiers, particularly suitable for hard water environments (due to the ability to chelate calcium and magnesium ions);

　　As a pH regulator for detergents, maintaining a weakly alkaline system to enhance cleaning power.

　　Pharmaceuticals and Cosmetics:

　　Pharmaceutical intermediate: Used in the synthesis of local anesthetics, antihistamines, etc., utilizing the basicity of its amino group and the water solubility of its hydroxyl group;

　　Cosmetic additive: Used as a pH buffer and humectant in skincare products and shampoos, being mild and low-irritation.

　　Other Fields:

　　Catalyst for polyurethane foam (promoting the reaction between between isocyanates and polyols);

　　Used as a softener and antistatic agent in the textile industry;

　　Additive for lubricating oils, improving oxidation resistance and anti-wear performance.
