Application Areas

Insect Pheromones:

As a sex pheromone for the Codling Moth (Cydia pomonella), it is used for pest monitoring and mating disruption. For example, formulating it into a sustained-release formulation and hanging it in orchards can significantly reduce pest mating rates and decrease the use of chemical pesticides.

When compounded with other compounds (such as pear ester), it can improve monitoring sensitivity and has been widely used in apple orchards in New Zealand.

Fragrances and Daily Chemicals:

Its derivative, acetate, possesses a fresh fruity scent and is used in blending flavors for melon, strawberry, etc.; its FEMA number is pending.

As a natural antibacterial agent, it can replace traditional preservatives in skincare products, such as in the formula of some Lancôme moisturizing lotions.

Organic Synthesis Intermediates:

Used to construct complex conjugated systems through Suzuki coupling or Stille coupling reactions for the synthesis of pharmaceuticals and pesticides. For example, its brominated derivatives can serve as active groups in the synthesis of antitumor drug precursors.
