Selenium dioxide
Other Products
Main Applications
Electrolytic Manganese Industry: Selenium dioxide is an indispensable additive in the production of electrolytic manganese. Approximately 1 kg of selenium dioxide is required for every ton of electrolytic manganese produced, accounting for 80% of its total usage.
Organic Synthesis and Pharmaceuticals
As an oxidizing agent, it is used to prepare oxygen-containing compounds (such as intermediates for antitumor drugs) and to catalyze esterification and condensation reactions.
Used to synthesize selenium-containing drugs (such as seleno-amino acids), which possess antioxidant and anticancer activities.
Materials Science
Semiconductor Doping: Used as a selenium source to regulate the electrical conductivity of semiconductor materials like silicon and germanium, and to prepare P-type or N-type devices. Photovoltaic Technology: Used as a wide-bandgap light absorber in selenium-silicon tandem solar cells, holding promise for breaking the efficiency limits of single-junction silicon cells.
Glass and Ceramics: Used as a colorant to impart specific colors (such as red or yellow) to materials.
Agriculture and Animal Husbandry: As a raw material for selenium-containing foliar fertilizers, it can increase the selenium content in crops; when added to feed, it can prevent white muscle disease in animals caused by selenium deficiency, but the dosage must be strictly controlled.
