Powder electrostatic spraying principle

Electrostatic spraying utilizes the principle of high-voltage electrostatic corona electric field. The metal flow guide on the spray gun head is connected to the high-voltage negative electrode, and the workpiece to be sprayed is grounded to form a positive electrode. A strong electrostatic field is formed between the spray gun and the workpiece. When the carrier gas sends the powder coating from the powder supply bucket through the powder delivery pipe to the flow guide cup of the spray gun, the flow guide cup is connected to the high-voltage negative electrode to generate corona discharge, and dense charges are generated around it, making the powder carry negative charges. Under the action of electrostatic force and compressed air, the powder is evenly adsorbed on the workpiece. After heating, the powder is melted and solidified (or plasticized) to form a uniform, continuous, flat and smooth coating film.
Both baking varnish and powder spraying are used for appearance protection. For products with high appearance requirements, baking varnish is generally selected. Of course, high-quality metal plastic powder can also be used for the appearance of cars. But the surfaces of general tools are mostly treated with powder spraying. Basically, there is no difference in the effect between the two processes.

Differences between baking varnish and powder spraying:

1. Better adhesion and corrosion resistance than baking varnish;

2. The curing temperature of powder spraying is high at 180℃, and electrostatic spraying is generally used during powder spraying. The temperature of baking varnish is relatively low at 80℃;

3. The gloss and roughness of powder spraying are worse than those of baking varnish;

4. The thickness of powder spraying is generally greater than that of paint spraying;

5. The surface treatment for powder spraying can be simpler, no primer is needed, while baking varnish requires the use of primer during painting
