Magnesium bronze is a binary alloy in the Cu-Mg system. Trace amounts of magnesium have little effect on the electrical conductivity of copper, while also providing a certain deoxidizing effect, which benefits copper's high-temperature oxidation resistance.

The addition of magnesium slightly reduces the electrical conductivity of copper, but its thermal conductivity and heat resistance are superior to cadmium bronze. It also offers certain torsional resistance and corrosion resistance. Magnesium bronze has good cold and hot working properties and is generally supplied in the form of wire.
