I. Development of PLC Networking Technology, with Two Trends

On one hand, PLC network systems are no longer self-contained closed systems but are rapidly evolving into open systems. In addition to forming their own distinctive PLC network systems and completing equipment control tasks, PLCs can also network with upper-level computer management systems to achieve information exchange, becoming part of the overall information management system.

On the other hand, fieldbus technology is widely adopted. PLCs and other intelligent devices installed on-site, such as smart instruments, sensors, intelligent solenoid valves, and intelligent drive actuators, are connected via a transmission medium (e.g., twisted pair, coaxial cable, optical fiber) and communicate with each other according to the same communication protocol, forming a field network. Compared to purely PLC remote networks, this type of network offers more flexible configuration, easier expansion, lower cost, better cost-performance ratio, and greater openness.

II. The Trend Toward Miniaturization of PLCs
