On a certain date, at a lamb hotpot restaurant located west of Shuangjing Bridge in Beijing, after customers were seated, the staff immediately brought disposable meal packs according to the number of people. When asked if they could switch to non-disposable utensils, one staff member said, "We don’t have regular chopsticks; we can only use these." When further questioned if they were aware that Beijing’s catering industry had implemented regulations against automatically providing disposable utensils, the staff member replied, "We have always used these." The Beijing News noted that in the restaurant’s sterilizing cabinet, only non-disposable items like plates and soup spoons were available; there were no chopsticks. All diners used these customized disposable meal packs, which included chopsticks, disposable gloves, and wet wipes. On the bill, each disposable meal pack was charged at a certain fee. According to the new regulations, starting from a specified date, both catering operators and food delivery service providers are prohibited from automatically providing consumers with disposable chopsticks, forks, or spoons and must display conspicuous reminder signs. Those who violate the rules by automatically providing disposable items will be ordered by the urban management comprehensive law enforcement department to immediately correct the behavior and may face fines ranging from a certain amount up to 10,000 yuan. For repeated violations, fines can range from 10,000 to 50,000 yuan.
