Ethylene glycol monobutyl ether is an organic compound with the chemical formula C6H14O2. It is a colorless, transparent liquid that is soluble in water, benzene, methanol, and other organic solvents, as well as mineral oils. It is primarily used as a high-boiling-point solvent in paints, particularly nitrocellulose lacquers, quick-drying paints, varnishes, enamels, and paint removers. It also serves as an inactive diluent in adhesives, a metal cleaner, a paint stripper, a fiber wetting agent, a pesticide dispersant, a pharmaceutical extractant, and a resin plasticizer.
