Physicochemical Properties of Chlorine Gas:  Chlorine gas is a yellow-green gas under normal temperature and pressure, and can be liquefied into golden-yellow liquid chlorine through compression. It is one of the main products of the chlor-alkali industry and is used as a strong oxidizing and chlorinating agent. Mixing chlorine with hydrogen above 5% (by volume) poses an explosion risk. Chlorine gas is toxic and primarily enters the human body through the respiratory tract, dissolving in the moisture of mucous membranes and causing damage to the upper respiratory tract. Chlorine can undergo substitution or addition reactions with organic and inorganic substances to form various chlorides.

Chlorine Gas Precautions:

Skin Contact: Remove contaminated clothing and rinse immediately with water for at least 15 minutes. In case of burns, treat as acid burns.

Eye Contact: Immediately lift the eyelids and rinse with running water or saline solution for at least 15 minutes.

Inhalation: Quickly move to fresh air. Keep the respiratory tract clear. Administer oxygen if breathing is difficult. Provide nebulized inhalation of 2–4% sodium bicarbonate solution. Seek medical attention.

Ingestion: Seek medical attention immediately.

Engineering Controls: Ensure strict enclosure and provide adequate local and general exhaust ventilation.

Respiratory Protection: Wear respiratory protective equipment when the airborne concentration exceeds the standard. For emergency rescue or evacuation, use a positive pressure self-contained breathing apparatus.

Eye Protection: Wear chemical safety goggles.

Protective Clothing: Wear appropriate protective clothing.
