Related Applications of High-Purity Xenon Gas
High-purity xenon gas is widely used in the electronics and electric light source industries. Xenon-filled bulbs, compared to argon-filled bulbs of the same power, offer advantages such as higher luminous efficiency, smaller size, longer lifespan, and energy savings. Due to its exceptional fog-penetrating ability, it is commonly used in fog lamps and is widely applied in airports, train stations, and docks. When focused by a concave mirror, xenon lamps can generate temperatures up to 2500°C, making them suitable for welding or cutting refractory metals like titanium and molybdenum. In the medical field, xenon gas is a deep anesthetic without side effects and is used as a contrast agent in X-ray imaging.
High-purity xenon gas is used in excimer lasers, light bulbs, ion propulsion, aviation, medical applications, and experimental research.
Introduction to 5N high-purity xenon gas: Physical and chemical properties: Xenon is a chemical element with the symbol Xe and atomic number 54. It is a colorless, odorless rare gas that emits a blue glow when electrified. Trace amounts of xenon exist in the Earth's atmosphere. Except for a few compounds, xenon compounds are generally colorless.
Introduction to 5N High-Purity Xenon Gas
Xenon gas is a colorless, odorless, non-flammable inert compressed gas, present in the atmosphere at a concentration of 90 ppm. It is primarily used in flash lamps, deep anesthetics, lasers, welding, cutting refractory metals, standard gases, and special gas mixtures. A mixture of krypton and xenon gases used to fill electron tubes and light bulbs saves 20–25% energy compared to argon-filled bulbs of the same power, extends lifespan by 2–3 times, improves luminous efficiency, and significantly reduces size. Xenon gas has extremely high light emission intensity and is used in iodine lamps, arc lamps, flash lamps, projection lamps, and space simulation lamps. The high-pressure xenon arc discharge lamp, developed in 1958, includes long-arc xenon lamps, short-arc xenon lamps, and pulsed xenon lamps. Long-arc xenon lamps filled with xenon gas have a spectrum very close to sunlight and are commonly known as "little suns." These xenon lamps have strong fog-penetrating ability and are often used for lighting at stations, docks, and squares. "Short-arc xenon lamps" have a color similar to noon sunlight, with a high color temperature (5600K), and are convenient to use, making them ideal artificial "sun lamps" for squares, streets, movie projection, and stage lighting. "Pulsed xenon lamps" are light sources that emit light in very short bursts, commonly known as "flash lamps," which utilize xenon pulse discharge to produce light. These small xenon lamps are widely used in photography. As an anesthetic, xenon gas is highly valued in medicine. Xenon dissolves in the lipids of cell cytoplasm, causing cells to anesthetize and swell, temporarily halting nerve endings. An 80% xenon and 20% oxygen mixture has been tested as an anesthetic without side effects. In the nuclear energy industry, high-purity xenon gas can be used to detect the presence of high-speed particles, mesons, and other particles.
Precautions for Using Xenon Gas
Xenon gas is a colorless, odorless, non-toxic, non-flammable high-pressure gas stored in cylinders. An increase in its concentration, reducing oxygen levels below 19.5%, may cause suffocation. Xenon gas is highly pressurized and must be减压 (减压 means减压 in Chinese, but it should be "减压" which means pressure reduction) before use. All cylinders have an expiration date; expired cylinders must be sent to authorized departments for safety inspection before further use. When the gas is nearly depleted, maintain a residual pressure of 0.5 MPa in the cylinder, with a minimum of 0.25 MPa. Close the cylinder valve to ensure gas quality and usage safety. During transportation, storage, and use, cylinder-packed xenon gas should be categorized and stacked separately. Flammable gases and oxidizing gases must not be stored together. Keep away from open flames and heat sources. Avoid fire, oil, wax, direct sunlight, heavy throwing, and impact. Do not strike an arc on the cylinder body, and avoid rough handling.
Precautions: Perform operations in a sealed environment with good natural ventilation. Operators must receive specialized training and strictly follow operating procedures. Prevent gas leakage into the workplace air. Keep away from flammable and combustible materials. Handle with care during transportation to avoid damage to cylinders and attachments. Equip with leakage emergency处理 equipment. Store in a cool, well-ventilated warehouse. Keep away from fire and heat sources. Warehouse temperature should not exceed 30°C. Store separately from易燃 (flammable) and可燃 (combustible) materials; avoid mixed storage. Generally, no special protection is required. When the oxygen concentration in the workplace falls below 18%, wear an air respirator, oxygen respirator, or long tube.
