Adipic acid

Adipic acid, also known as fatty acid, is an important organic dicarboxylic acid with the structural formula HOOC(CH₂)₄COOH. It can undergo salt formation reactions, esterification reactions, amidation reactions, and can undergo polycondensation with diamines or diols to form high molecular polymers.

Adipic acid is primarily used as a raw material for nylon 66 and engineering plastics, as well as in the production of various ester products. It also serves as a raw material for polyurethane elastomers and an acidulant for various foods and beverages, sometimes outperforming citric acid and tartaric acid.
Adipic acid is also a raw material for pharmaceuticals, yeast purification, pesticides, adhesives, synthetic leather, synthetic dyes, and fragrances.
Adipic acid has a mild and lasting sour taste, with minimal pH changes over a wide concentration range, making it an excellent pH regulator.
