BS 476-7 is a test method within the British standards for fire tests on building materials and structures, used to determine the surface spread of flame classification of products.
Scope of products required by the standard:
The BS 476-7 fire test applies to various types of building materials and products, including walls, ceilings, floors, partitions, doors, window frames, insulation materials, etc. It is primarily used to measure the surface spread of flame on building materials such as wall surfaces, insulation materials, and ceilings.
Common test materials include:
Fiberglass reinforced plastic, plastic components, display screens, wall panels, various types of boards, rock wool, foam, etc.
Note: A fire previously occurred involving display screens in Hong Kong, so display screens intended for sale in Hong Kong are now required to undergo the BS 476-7 fire test.
How is BS 476-7 tested?
Test steps are as follows:
1)Ignite the pilot flame.
2)Within 5 seconds, swing the sample holder and place it into the test position, then immediately start the timing mechanism, marking the beginning of the test.
3)Extinguish the pilot flame within one minute after the test begins.
4)Stop the test when the flame front reaches the 825 mm reference line or after 10 minutes, whichever occurs first.
