What is a fire door?

A fire door refers to a door that can meet the requirements of fire resistance stability, integrity, and thermal insulation within a certain period. It must be tested and qualified by a laboratory designated and recognized by the Ministry of the Interior's Fire Department and the Ministry of Economic Affairs in accordance with relevant national standards for fire door fire resistance testing. Only those that obtain the corresponding verification registration certificate and authorization mark can be called fire doors.

Classification of fire doors by fire resistance performance:

ŸInsulated fire door (Class A): Meets both fire resistance insulation and fire resistance integrity requirements for the corresponding time. For example, fire resistance insulation ≥0.50h and fire resistance integrity ≥0.50h is A0.50 (Class C); fire resistance insulation ≥1.00h and fire resistance integrity ≥1.00h is A1.00 (Class B); fire resistance insulation ≥1.50h and fire resistance integrity ≥1.50h is A1.50 (Class A), etc.

ŸPartially insulated fire door (Class B): Fire resistance insulation ≥0.50h, and fire resistance integrity meets the corresponding time requirements. For example, fire resistance integrity ≥1.00h is B1.00; fire resistance integrity ≥1.50h is B1.50, etc.

ŸNon-insulated fire door (Class C): Only meets fire resistance integrity requirements. For example, fire resistance integrity ≥1.00h is C1.00; fire resistance integrity ≥1.50h is C1.50, etc.

Fire door classification:

Wooden fire doors, steel fire doors, steel-wood fire doors, fire doors made of other materials.

Introduction to AS 1530.4 Fire Resistance Test:

1.Standard name:

AS/NZS 1530.4: Fire tests on building materials, components and structures - Part 4: Fire-resistance test of elements of construction

AS/NZS 1530.4: Methods for fire tests on building materials, components and structures - Fire-resistance test of elements of construction

2.Criteria for determination:

ŸLoss of integrity: When the cotton pad ignites or the unexposed surface burns for more than 10 seconds, the specimen is considered to have lost integrity;

During the test, if a 6mm diameter probe can pass through a crack into the furnace and the probe can move along the crack for a length of not less than 150mm;

If a 25mm diameter probe can pass through a crack into the furnace, the specimen is considered to have lost integrity.

ŸLoss of insulation: When the average temperature rise on the unexposed surface of the specimen exceeds the initial average surface temperature by 140°C, or when the temperature rise at any point on the unexposed surface exceeds the initial temperature at that point by 180°C, the specimen is considered to have lost insulation.

In summary, the AS 1530.4 determination criteria include integrity and insulation. For fire doors undergoing AS 1530.4 fire resistance testing, special attention must be paid to insulation performance, which requires particular caution.
