What is Cosmetic Zinc Oxide?
When taking care of yourself and your family, safety is the top priority. If you cannot trust a product and rely on it to do what it claims, nothing else matters. Product safety is the foremost concern for cosmetic and personal care companies, and everything they do is based on existing science.
Cosmetic Zinc Oxide (DXN-ZY06) is a powdered form of zinc oxide with a purity of up to 99.9% and a particle size of 200-300nm, refined from naturally occurring zinc minerals. Non-nano Cosmetic Zinc Oxide (DXN-ZY06) is widely used in cosmetics and personal care products, including items such as foundation, sunscreen, baby creams, and more. It can provide the relevant Cosmetic Ingredient Filing Code (The Cosmetic Ingredient Filing Code is a unique identification code submitted by cosmetic manufacturers to the national drug regulatory authorities to identify the ingredients used in cosmetic products.). It is also recognized as an important skin protectant and sunscreen ingredient to shield the skin from the sun's harmful ultraviolet radiation.
At the same time, Cosmetic Zinc Oxide (DXN-ZY06) is widely used in other consumer goods as an additive in rubber, plastics, ceramics, lubricants, paints, ointments, adhesives, sealants, pigments, food, and first-aid tapes. It provides whiteness, prevents discoloration in plastics and paints, and acts as a bactericide and fungicide.
Why Use It?
Cosmetic Zinc Oxide (DXN-ZY06) is a commonly used white powder in cosmetics, serving as a bulking agent and colorant. In the United States, it is also approved for use in over-the-counter drug products, such as diaper rash creams as a skin protectant and sunscreens as a broad-spectrum ultraviolet filter.
In sunscreens, ZnO acts as a physical barrier against the sun's ultraviolet rays. Nano Zinc Oxide (DXN-HQ20S), with a purity of 99% and a particle size of 30-50nm, is one of the broadest UVA and UVB reflectors approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use in sunscreens. Unprotected skin exposed to UV radiation can lead to sunburn (primarily UVB) and contribute to premature skin aging, as well as skin cancer (primarily UVA). Although zinc oxide typically imparts a white color to products, when applied to the skin in micro or nano sizes (or when made into very fine powder), it does not leave a white cast.
In Canada, Australia, the European Union, and Japan, ZnO is also recognized as an effective sunscreen ingredient.
