Making Silicone Rubber Molds (Key Points: No Bubbles, Complete Curing)

1. Prototype Preprocessing

   • Clean the prototype surface: Wipe the prototype with alcohol to remove dust, oil stains, and burrs. If there are gaps in the prototype, fill them with putty and sand smooth (gaps can cause silicone rubber leakage and defects in the plaster model).
   • Secure the prototype and mold frame: Place the prototype on a flat work surface (e.g., glass table), fix the bottom of the prototype with double-sided tape (to prevent displacement when pouring silicone rubber), then place the mold frame around the prototype. Seal the gap between the frame and the work surface with clay (to prevent silicone rubber from seeping out from the bottom).

2. Mixing Silicone Rubber and Curing Agent

   • Measure according to the instructions: For example, 100g silicone rubber + 10g curing agent (must use an electronic scale; if the curing agent is too little, the silicone rubber will remain sticky; if too much, the mold will become brittle and prone to cracking).
   • Stir thoroughly: Pour the curing agent into the silicone rubber and stir slowly in the same direction with a stirring rod (to avoid generating too many bubbles). Stir for 5-8 minutes until there are no streaks and the color is uniform (uneven mixing can cause partial non-curing).

3. Vacuum Degassing to Remove Bubbles (Optional but Recommended)

   • Pour the mixed silicone rubber into a vacuum chamber, vacuum to -0.08MPa, and hold for 2-3 minutes until the bubbles completely burst (if bubbles are not removed, the mold will have holes, causing bumps during plaster pouring).
   • Alternative without a vacuum pump: Let the mixture sit for 2 minutes to allow bubbles to rise naturally, then slowly pour into the mold frame along the wall (to reduce bubbles caused by impact).
