Silicone Ratio: Mix Strictly According to Proportion (Core Step)
Candle mold silicone rubber is mostly two-component (Component A: Component B), with a ratio typically of 1:1 (some products are 100:2 or 10:1, subject to the product instructions). Ratio errors may cause the silicone to fail to cure or result in poor performance after curing.
Operation Steps:
- Weighing: Wear gloves and a mask, use an electronic scale to weigh Component A and Component B separately (e.g., for 100g of silicone, weigh 100g of Component A + 10g of Component B). It is recommended to weigh Component A first and then Component B to minimize errors.
- Mixing: Pour Component B into the mixing cup containing Component A, use a stirring rod to stir slowly in the same direction (avoid vigorous stirring to prevent excessive bubbles). Stir for about 3-5 minutes, ensuring no unmixed "dead spots" on the cup walls or bottom, until the silicone color is uniform (no streaks or color patches).
3. Deaeration Treatment: Avoid Bubbles in the Mold
If a significant number of bubbles are generated during mixing, it may cause holes on the surface of the cured silicone mold, affecting candle demolding and aesthetics. Deaeration is required:
- Manual Deaeration (suitable for small batches): After mixing, let the silicone sit for 5-10 minutes to allow bubbles to naturally rise (if there are many bubbles, gently tap the mixing cup walls to accelerate bubble bursting).
- Vacuum Deaeration (suitable for batches or high-precision molds): Place the mixed silicone into a vacuum machine and vacuum for 1-2 minutes (vacuum degree about -0.09MPa) until bubbles completely disappear (note: vacuum time should not be too long to avoid the silicone thickening due to volatilization).
4. Pouring Silicone: Slow and Even, Covering the Master Mold
Slowly pour the deaerated silicone into the outer frame with the fixed master mold. Pay attention during pouring:
- Speed: Pour slowly along the edge of the outer frame to avoid silicone impacting the master mold, which may cause displacement or new bubbles.
- Coverage Thickness: The silicone must completely cover the master mold, with a thickness of at least 5mm around (edges that are too thin may tear during demolding). If the master mold has raised details, ensure the silicone fully fills the recesses (gently shake the outer frame to help the silicone flow).
5. Curing and Molding: Room Temperature Rest, Avoid Disturbance
After pouring, place the outer frame in a room temperature (20-30°C), ventilated, and dust-free environment to allow the silicone to cure naturally. The curing time should follow the product instructions (typically 4-8 hours; lower temperatures slow curing. If the temperature is too low, appropriately extend the curing time. Do not use heat to accelerate curing, as it may cause internal stress in the silicone and shorten its lifespan).
Curing Check: Gently touch the silicone surface with a finger. If it feels dry, non-sticky, elastic when pressed, and without depressions, it indicates complete curing.
6. Demolding and Trimming: Handle with Care, Remove Burrs
After the silicone is fully cured, demold and trim the mold:
- Demolding: First, remove the outer frame, then use fingers to gently lift from the edge of the silicone mold and slowly peel it away from the master mold (if the master mold has complex patterns, start from areas with shallower patterns to avoid tearing the mold by forceful pulling). If demolding is difficult, apply a small amount of release agent at the edges to assist.
- Trimming: After demolding, use scissors or a utility knife to trim burrs and excess silicone from the edges of the silicone mold. If there are small bubble holes on the mold surface, gently sand them smooth with fine sandpaper (800 grit).
