Camphor Oil
Product Overview:
Refined from camphor resin, it is a colorless or pale yellow to reddish-brown oily liquid, soluble in ethanol and ether, with a strong camphor odor. It is a high-ash substance, highly volatile, and dries easily. When used in painting new colors, it helps to spread the oil, allows for smooth brushstrokes, and dries quickly after application. It is less commonly used in painting pastels, sometimes employed to moisten dry brushes, clean solidified residues, or modify and remove unwanted lines. It can also dilute gold or electroplating solutions for porcelain painting and is mixed with alcohol to form a solution for applying thin decals. However, it must never be mixed with frankincense oil. It is derived from the trunk, branches, and leaves of the camphor tree (Cinnamomum camphora Siebold) through steam distillation. CAS 8008-51-3
