Passivation Treatment of Stainless Steel Fasteners

Stainless steel fasteners are the most common components in mechanical equipment. However, due to various influencing factors during use, corrosion often occurs. In addition to passivation treatment of stainless steel fasteners to prevent corrosion, electroplating and heat treatment processes can also achieve anti-corrosion effects.

For the surface passivation of standard stainless steel fasteners, the main function of passivation is to alter the chemical structure of the stainless steel surface through the chemical action of the stainless steel passivation solution. This transforms the originally more reactive metal surface into an inert metal surface, thereby significantly reducing the oxidation of stainless steel fasteners and enhancing surface corrosion resistance.

The passivation process for stainless steel fasteners is as follows:

1. Degreasing, cleaning, and decontamination: Soak the stainless steel fasteners in stainless steel cleaner JYM-302 for 1-3 minutes. Once the surface oil stains are removed, rinse thoroughly with clean water.

2. Passivation treatment: Soak the cleaned stainless steel fasteners in stainless steel passivation solution JYM-101 for 30 minutes at room temperature. After the passivation time is complete, remove the workpieces and rinse them clean.

3. Soak in purified water for 3 minutes.

4. Dry and package.

Electroplating treatment for stainless steel fasteners:

Simply put, electroplating stainless steel fasteners involves placing the fasteners into a metal solution and using an electric current to coat the surface with a layer of metal. This metal layer serves many purposes, and depending on the specific requirements, different metal coatings can be chosen, such as zinc plating, chromium plating, nickel plating, etc.

Heat treatment for stainless steel fasteners:

There are certain requirements for the heat treatment of the surface layer of standard stainless steel fasteners. Some fasteners require a harder surface, such as self-drilling screws. After heat treatment, it ensures that the self-drilling screws have sufficient hardness. This is the reason for performing heat treatment.
