Grapefruit essential oil is a volatile oil ranging from yellow to yellow-green, sometimes with a reddish hue, and may precipitate waxy substances during storage. It exhibits a citrus aroma. It is soluble in most non-volatile oils and mineral oils, often appearing milky or flocculent, slightly soluble in propylene glycol, and insoluble in glycerol. Grapefruit essential oil is very common in aromatherapy.
It is extracted from the peel of the grapefruit (Citrus paradisi), not the pulp or flesh. Like other citrus fruits, grapefruit essential oil is obtained through cold pressing.
Uses
GB 2760—96: Permitted food flavor. Mainly used in refreshing beverages, jams, jellies, candies, and to enhance the aroma of lemon, orange, and other flavors.
