PI is an aromatic heterocyclic polymer compound whose molecular structure contains imide group chains. Its English name is Polyimide (abbreviated as PI). It can be divided into four categories: homobenzene-type PI, soluble PI, PAI, and PEI.
PI is one of the best heat-resistant varieties among engineering plastics. Some types can withstand high temperatures of 290°C for long periods and short-term exposure to 490°C. It is also resistant to extremely low temperatures, such as not becoming brittle in liquid helium at -269°C. Additionally, it has good mechanical properties, fatigue resistance, flame retardancy, dimensional stability, and electrical performance. It has low molding shrinkage, is resistant to oil, general acids, and solvents, but not to alkalis. It has excellent friction and wear resistance. Moreover, PI can be used to make tableware and medical instruments, enduring thousands of sterilizations.
