There are many ways to vent the cavity of a plastic mold, but each method must ensure that while venting, the vent groove is designed to prevent material from overflowing into the groove. Additionally, excessive venting can be harmful. If the clamping pressure on the unvented part of the mold parting surface is too high, it can easily cause cold flow or cracking of the mold material, which is very dangerous.
Besides venting the mold cavity on the parting surface, venting can also be achieved by setting vent grooves at the end of the flow path in the gating system and by leaving gaps around the ejector pins. However, if the depth, width, and location of the vent grooves are not properly chosen, flash or burrs may occur, affecting the product's appearance. Therefore, the size of the gaps must be controlled to prevent flash around the ejector pins.
