Injection Molding Pressure:
Injection pressure is provided by the hydraulic system of the injection molding machine. The pressure from the hydraulic cylinder is transmitted through the machine's screw to the plastic melt. Under this pressure, the melt is pushed through the machine's nozzle into the mold's sprue (which, for some molds, also serves as the main runner), main runner, sub-runners, and through the gate into the mold cavity. This process is known as injection molding or the filling process. The pressure exists to overcome the resistance encountered during the flow of the melt. Conversely, the resistance present during flow requires the injection machine's pressure to counteract it, ensuring the filling process proceeds smoothly.
During injection molding, the pressure at the nozzle of the injection machine is the highest to overcome the flow resistance throughout the melt. Subsequently, the pressure gradually decreases along the flow path toward the melt front. If the mold cavity is well-vented, the pressure at the very front of the melt is atmospheric pressure.
Many factors influence the filling pressure of the melt, which can be summarized into three categories:
Material factors, such as the type and viscosity of the plastic;
Structural factors, such as the type, number, and location of the gating system, the shape of the mold cavity, and the thickness of the product;
