Overview of Polyurethane
Polyurethane (PUR) refers to a large class of polymers characterized by numerous urethane groups in the main molecular chain. It is a high molecular material that falls between plastics and rubber, featuring high elongation, a wide hardness range, broad formulation adjustability, and excellent wear resistance and mechanical properties. Cast polyurethane elastomer (CPUR) is the most important of the three major processing types of polyurethane elastomers, accounting for 60% of PUR usage. It offers advantages such as diverse chemical structures, easy viscosity adjustment, excellent processing techniques, suitability for industrial production, ease of use, and fast curing, making it highly suitable for manufacturing large and complex components. Polyurethane wear-resistant liners are produced using the cast polyurethane elastomer process. Polyurethane is a polymer containing urethane-type repeating structural units in its macromolecular chain, fully known as polyamino acid ester, with the English full name polyurethane, abbreviated as PU or PUR. PU is the product of the reaction between polyisocyanate and polyether or polyester polyols in specific proportions.
Properties of PU Polyurethane Elastomer: The properties of PU elastomers vary slightly depending on whether they are synthesized from polyester or polyether polyols. Polyester-type PU offers high mechanical strength and good oil resistance but poor water resistance. Polyether-type PU excels in low-temperature resistance and hydrolysis resistance compared to polyester-type, though it has slightly inferior oil resistance and mechanical properties.
Mechanical Properties of PU: PU elastomers exhibit a wide range of hardness, from Shore A10 to A90 and up to D80, with an elongation at break as high as 600% to 800%. In contrast, natural rubber has a maximum Shore hardness of only A70 and an elongation at break of 550%. PU elastomers have high tear strength, 2 to 5 times greater than natural rubber. They also feature high resilience and excellent shock absorption. The wear resistance of PU elastomers is 3 to 10 times that of natural rubber. Shandong Meihuan Rubber & Plastic
