Instrument Principle:

When monochromatic light passes through the measured solution, its energy is absorbed. The intensity of light absorption is proportional to the concentration of the substance being measured, in accordance with the Lambert-Beer Law: A = log(1/T) = log(I₀/I) = a × b × c

According to the standard 《HJ 637-2018 Water Quality - Determination of Petroleum and Animal Oils - Infrared Spectrophotometry》, petroleum substances in water are extracted using carbon tetrachloride to determine petroleum content.
