Tetrabenzyl galactose can be used as an intermediate in the synthesis of acyclic uridine derivatives and also as an intermediate in the synthesis of galactose-terminated diacylglycerol polyethylene glycol.

Using tetrabenzyl galactose as a starting material, α-galactoside pyrimidine (α-galactose-H N J) can be prepared via Wittig chain extension and cyclization reactions according to literature methods. This compound can enhance the activity of mutant enzymes in lysosomal storage disorders, providing a treatment for patients with lysosomal storage diseases.

It can be conveniently converted into highly reactive tetrabenzyl galactose derivatives such as fluoro, chloro, bromo, iodo, and trichloroacetimidate esters. It is used in the synthesis of glycoconjugates, such as intermediates for novel immunosuppressive glycolipid derivatives used in the treatment of autoimmune diseases. Tetrabenzyl galactose can be used in the synthesis of molecular probes, such as biosensors that immobilize sugar chains on substrates like gold. As a conventional biosensor using sugar compounds, this polymer can be effectively used for qualitative and quantitative analysis of bacteria or toxins. As a common building block, it can be used to construct glycosidic bonds for the synthesis of various polysaccharides, such as the preparation of aGal(1-4)βGal(1-4)Glc-OR trisaccharide.
