Properties: This product is an odorless white crystalline powder, soluble in water, methanol, and hot ethanol, among others.

Uses: Can be used to synthesize derivatives of methyl galactoside such as 2,6-di-O-benzyl-β-D-methyl galactoside, 3,6-anhydro-β-D-methyl galactoside, 3,4-O-isopropylidene-β-D-methyl galactoside, 1,5-anhydrogalactitol, 2,3-di-O-acetyl-4,6-O-benzylidene-β-D-methyl galactose, 2,3,4-tri-O-methyl (or acetyl, benzyl)-β-D-methyl galactoside, 2,3,6-tri-O-acetyl (or benzoyl)-β-D-methyl galactoside, 2,3,4,6-tetra-O-acetyl (or benzyl)-β-D-methyl galactoside, and methyl-4-deoxy-2,6-di-O-benzyl-α-L-threo-hex-4-enopyranoside, among others. Used in the synthesis of chiral D-inositol, β-D-methyl galacturonate, β-D-methyl galactonate, and 3-O-benzoyl-β-D-methyl galactoside, among others. Used in the synthesis of complexes of β-D-methyl galactoside with phenylboronic acid or hydroxyphenylboronic acid, crown ethers, etc., and galactose oligosaccharide-amino acid complexes. Used in the synthesis of galactosyl oligosaccharides, thiocellobiose, and sialic acid oligosaccharides. Used in the synthesis of galactose nanoparticles.
