Organized emissions refer to the treated and degraded gaseous pollutants that are discharged in an orderly manner at high altitudes with low concentrations through specific exhaust stacks or chimneys. The concentration of such emissions is usually calculable, such as SO2, CO2, CO, and PM2.5 emitted by the power industry. After appropriate treatment, these emissions are released at high altitudes through specialized facilities to minimize their environmental impact.
In contrast, fugitive emissions are more concealed and difficult to detect. These emissions are often released directly into the environment without passing through exhaust stacks or chimneys, characterized by disorderliness, concealment, and low detectability. Common fugitive emissions include gas leaks, pollution releases during open-air operations, and gas emissions from waste storage yards. Although their concentrations may be low, their widespread impact and environmental harm cannot be overlooked.
To better monitor and manage fugitive emissions, modern enterprises have begun adopting intelligent environmental monitoring systems. Among these, air quality microstations have become an important monitoring tool. These microstations can be deployed at multiple points around the perimeter of an enterprise, forming a foundational monitoring network. Equipped with various sensors, they can monitor multiple air pollutant parameters in real-time, such as PM2.5, PM10, SO2, NO2, O3, and CO, while also incorporating meteorological parameters like wind speed and direction to provide a comprehensive understanding of pollution conditions.
However, although air quality microstations play a significant role in monitoring fugitive emissions, they are not a one-size-fits-all solution. For example, in the enclosed sintering material operation sheds of steel enterprises, fugitive emissions exist, but air quality microstations cannot effectively monitor them. This is due to the high pollutant concentrations in such environments, which significantly shorten sensor lifespan and increase maintenance costs. Therefore, more suitable dust monitoring equipment is needed for these specific conditions.
Despite such application limitations, air quality microstations continue to play a crucial role in fugitive emission monitoring. They not only help enterprises conduct self-inspections and improve emission documentation but also enable the development of intelligent monitoring solutions through integrated smart environmental monitoring systems. Additionally, when combined with equipment like mobile air monitoring vehicles and air monitoring drones, they facilitate comprehensive, multi-dimensional environmental air quality self-inspection zones, providing strong support for corporate environmental protection efforts.
In the future, as technology advances and environmental regulations become stricter, fugitive emission monitoring will grow in importance. It is believed that in the near future, more innovative monitoring devices and systems will be applied to the monitoring and management of fugitive emissions, making greater contributions to environmental protection and sustainable development.
