Stainless Steel Swing Check Valve HP BXFM Overview
The function of a check valve is to prevent the backflow of medium in the pipeline. Check valves belong to the automatic valve category, where the opening and closing parts operate by the force of the flowing medium. Check valves are only used in pipelines with unidirectional medium flow to prevent backflow and avoid accidents. Applicable media include: water, oil, steam, acidic media, etc.
When installed in a pipeline, the check valve becomes one of the fluid components of the complete pipeline. The opening and closing process of the valve disc is influenced by the transient flow state of the system it is in. Conversely, the closing characteristics of the valve disc affect the fluid flow state. The working characteristics of check valves involve large load changes and low opening and closing frequency. Once in the closed or open state, the applicable cycle is long, and no movement of moving parts is required. However, once a "switching" requirement arises, it must operate flexibly, which is more demanding than common mechanical movements.
Since check valves are often used for rapid closing in most practical applications, at the moment of closure, the medium flows in the reverse direction. As the valve disc closes, the medium's backflow speed rapidly decreases to zero, while the pressure quickly increases, resulting in a "water hammer" phenomenon that may damage the pipeline system. For high-pressure pipeline systems with multiple pumps operating in parallel, the water hammer issue in check valves becomes more prominent. Water hammer is a pressure wave in transient flow within pressure pipelines, caused by changes in fluid velocity, leading to a hydraulic impact phenomenon of pressure surge or drop. Its physical cause is the combined effect of fluid incompressibility, fluid motion inertia, and pipeline elasticity. To prevent water hammer in pipelines, over the years, new structures and materials have been adopted in check valve design. While ensuring the performance of check valves, significant progress has been made in minimizing the impact force of water hammer.
