Gate Valve Overview: The opening and closing component of a gate valve is the gate plate, whose movement direction is perpendicular to the fluid flow. Gate valves can only be fully open or fully closed and are not suitable for regulation or throttling. The gate plate has two sealing surfaces. Commonly used wedge-type gate valves have two sealing surfaces forming a wedge shape, with the wedge angle varying depending on valve parameters, typically 5°. The wedge gate plate can be made as a single unit, called a rigid gate plate, or designed to allow slight deformation to improve manufacturability and compensate for deviations in the sealing surface angle during processing, known as an elastic gate plate. When the gate valve is closed, the sealing surfaces can rely solely on medium pressure for sealing, meaning the medium pressure presses the gate plate's sealing surfaces against the valve seat on the opposite side to ensure sealing, which is self-sealing. Most gate valves use forced sealing, meaning that when the valve is closed, external force is required to press the gate plate against the valve seat to ensure sealing. Gate valves where the gate plate moves linearly with the valve stem are called rising stem gate valves (also known as明杆闸阀). Typically, the rising stem has a trapezoidal thread, converting rotational motion into linear motion via the nut at the top of the valve and the guide groove on the valve body, thus transforming operating torque into thrust. Some valves have the valve stem nut set on the gate plate; rotating the handwheel drives the valve stem to rotate, moving the gate plate. These are called non-rising stem gate valves or暗杆闸阀.
