The flange globe valve is a forced-seal type valve, so when the valve is closed, pressure must be applied to the valve disc to ensure the sealing surface does not leak. When the medium enters the valve from below the disc, the operating force must overcome the resistance from the friction of the valve stem and packing, as well as the thrust generated by the medium pressure. The force required to close the valve is greater than that to open it, so the valve stem diameter must be larger; otherwise, the valve stem may bend. In recent years, with the advent of self-sealing valves, the medium flow direction for flange globe valves has been changed to enter the valve cavity from above the disc. In this case, the force required to close the valve is smaller, while the force to open it is larger, allowing for a corresponding reduction in the valve stem diameter. Additionally, this type of valve provides better sealing under medium pressure.
