The site for a beef cattle farm should be high, sheltered from the wind, sunny, dry, with firm ground, good air circulation, easy drainage, and a slightly sloping, flat, and open area. Places contaminated by waste, chemicals, or pathogens must be avoided. The beef cattle farm must also have an adequate water source, good water quality, and meet the basic requirements for daily life, production, and herd drinking. For future feed transportation, cattle sales, and breeding introductions, it should also have convenient transportation and power supply. To be environmentally friendly, the beef cattle farm should be located far from villages and communities, at least 1,000 meters away, and situated downstream from residential areas.
Beef Cattle Farm Design
The suitable temperature for beef cattle farming is 8-20 degrees Celsius, which promotes rapid growth. Temperatures below 0 degrees or above 24 degrees can negatively affect cattle growth, and temperatures above 30 degrees often cause issues such as stress and disease. A semi-open barn design is recommended, with a roof and open sides. Beef cattle pens are typically designed in a double-row layout with a central management and feeding passageway, recommended to be 1.8-2 meters wide. The cattle bed should have a slightly sloped surface, generally with a gradient of 1%-1.5%. For adult cattle, the bed should be 2-2.2 meters long and 1.3-1.5 meters wide. The cattle bed should include a drainage and manure ditch, recommended to be about 30 cm wide and 10-12 cm deep. At the front of the cattle bed, along the walkway, fixed feed troughs, water troughs, and neck yokes should be installed to prevent cattle from wandering or colliding. The feed and water troughs should be 0.5 meters wide and 0.3 meters deep. Each cattle pen should have activity areas at the front and back, equipped with drinking pools, shade shelters for summer, and cattle lick blocks. It is recommended that each beef cattle have at least 20 square meters of exercise space.
