YOUNG Model 86004 Ultrasonic Anemometer

The YOUNG Model 86004 Ultrasonic Anemometer measures horizontal wind speed and direction. This lightweight and compact sensor features a durable, corrosion-resistant construction, with sensitive ultrasonic transducers mounted in a streamlined molded frame. Heating elements are thermostatically controlled to activate under low-temperature conditions. Each sensor is fully wind tunnel tested and calibrated to provide accurate wind measurements over a wide operating range. The standard sensor features RS-232 and RS-485 serial outputs in multiple formats. Analog voltage outputs for wind speed and direction are provided. A 4-20 mA current signal per channel is ideal for long cable runs or industrial environments where noise immunity is important. The sensor mounts on a standard 1-inch IPS pipe. An orientation ring is included that engages the sensor base to maintain orientation when the sensor is removed for maintenance. Termination is made in a junction box at the base of the sensor via small clip-on connectors (no special connectors required).

The YOUNG Model 86004-SDI Ultrasonic Anemometer is a specialized version of the Model 86004. This model operates similarly to the Model 86004 but uses the SDI-12 (v1.3) serial communication protocol to minimize power consumption.

The optional Bird Wire Assembly Model 86052 can be used to deter birds from perching on the sensor. For optimal performance, this assembly must be installed (when used) prior to calibration.
