The Meriam MFC-5150 HART Communicator uses a Windows system for faster processing speed and greater storage capacity. Additionally, there are no subscriptions, and all options are included at no extra cost. The device features a fast 1 GHz processor, 256 MB of RAM, and 512 MB of flash memory. It supports SD cards up to 8 GB, enabling it to store every existing DD file. This ensures communication with any registered or unregistered HART device, guaranteeing that HART transmitters will connect to the 5150 regardless of brand or model.

With a 4.3-inch wide-viewing-angle touchscreen featuring anti-glare visibility, it can be used in darkness or bright sunlight. All functions are easily operated using a smartphone-like QWERTY full keyboard and intuitive international icon navigation, with no need for a stylus on the touchscreen.

The 5150 includes contextual help that can play videos, allowing instructional videos to be loaded onto the device for field use. It offers quick navigation via single-touch, hyperlinked menu paths, and taught, device-specific shortcuts. The communicator is equipped with a 9400 mAh rechargeable battery, providing over 10 hours of continuous use and more than 200 hours in standby mode. The device features an "instant-on" function, extending battery life and allowing immediate use; the 5150 can be charged without requiring a full shift. When charging is needed, it rests in the provided cradle, which has an integrated USB connection to the customer's PC.

The 5150 is rated IP54 for protection and includes a secondary molded bumper for impact protection. There is no need to purchase a protective boot for the 5150. It is ergonomically designed for easy holding and use. Through the included charging dock, the 5150 has a USB connection, enabling updates via the internet with no subscription fees, support for multiple languages, and TAB access to multiple panes.
